Remember

When the rest of the world has forgotten,

To the point where there’s nothing left to forget.

When history itself is caught in

Some invisible net,

I will remember you.

When the weight of the world hangs on the shoulders

Of billions of sad marionettes–

Fighting their battles like soldiers.

Standing like proud cadets.

I will remember you.

         Everybody thinks about another world war.

         But I still remember the ideals you stood for:

         Many people just don’t want to fight anymore.

         They won’t fight anymore.

When half of the world is carving

Their names in the walls of the hall of fame;

And the other half are starving

With a hunger none can name,

I will remember you.
